East London Dance is recruiting: Chair of Trustees

As East London Dance starts its next pioneering chapter from a new home at The Talent House, the Trustees are seeking to appoint a new Chair

The Chair will provide leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees and the Joint Chief Executives, support the employees and ensure that the organisation achieves its objectives. The role is pivotal in creating the conditions for overall Board and individual Trustee and Executive effectiveness, both inside and outside the Boardroom.

The incoming Chair will need to have credibility, strong leadership skills and commitment to carefully manage the organisation’s governance arrangements and to ensure the Board of Trustees is well run. They should be able to mentor and challenge the joint CEOs/Creative Directors and be a compelling communicator and advocate for the organisation’s activities.

“This is an exciting phase for East London Dance, an organisation with a longstanding history in the sector and strong connections to the local community. 2022 marks the start of a new chapter for ELD; a new executive leadership team and a brand new building for dance and music co-led by ELD and building partner UD Music.” Tia Hassan & Kate Scanlan – Joint Creative Director & Chief Executive

Don’t meet every requirement listed in our recruitment pack?

Studies have shown that women and people from global majority heritages are less likely to apply for roles unless they meet every single qualification. At ELD we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the person specification, we encourage you to contact us for a chat. You may be just the right person for this role.

The successful candidate will be self-aware and build a Board around them to address gaps in their experience and skills. We want to ensure that the board better reflects the people we work with, prioritising individuals from African, Caribbean, South Asian and other global majority heritages, East London residents, and artists.
