The Fi.ELD: Celebrating a successful 3 years

On 27 October we held the third and final Fi.ELD graduation here at Stratford Circus Arts Centre. As part of this evening we celebrated all three cohorts that have been on this incredible journey with us, inviting their past and present employers to speak with them on stage – some of these speakers included Alistair Spalding (Chief Executive an Artistic Director, Sadler’s Wells) and Lucy Molewyn-Huges (Participation Producer, Hofesh Shechter Company).

Hosted by The Fi.ELD facilitators Kate Scanlan and Kirsty Anderson-Tyrrell, guests were presented with key statistics, facts and figures, which represented the absolute success of the programme over the past 3 years – see below for more:

The graduating cohort delivered powerful 3-minute speeches, reflecting on their experiences and journeys over the past 12 months – causing laughs and a few moist eyes!

Fi.ELD participant David Waker said:
“The Fi.ELD embodies what it means to challenge an artist as a creative entrepreneur… In the future I see myself as a class-leading dancer, academic, and choreographer. This is what represents me. I visualise my work being taught n schools, I visualise my work in Europe, and I visualise my work in all genres of movement. These visions were present before, but it is working with The Fi.ELD that has given a defiant structure to these goals, and this will inspire and generate more impact in future generations of dance, which is at the heart of The Fi.ELD.”

What stood out was the exceptional growth of each individual and how they worked as a supportive team throughout the year. Each speech expressed a great level of maturity and confidence in taking the next step at forging a career in teh arts. which of course we were very proud of.

Nikhil Shah a member of the British Council’s Creative Entrepreneur Network was our inspiring guest speaker. Nikhil is the co-founder of Mixcloud and independent record label ManMakeMusic as well as being a finalist of the UK YCE Music Award 2010.

The evening ended with a drinks reception accompanied by live music from Band 507 – a 5-piece funk and soul band who grabbed our attention at the Twisted Cabaret, an event run by Fi.ELD member Lily Simmons at Blueprints.
