As the East London Youth Dance Company (ELYDC) enters it’s third year, East London Dance is delighted to welcome Jasmin Saulo as the new Artistic Director of the company.
Jasmin is a professional dancer, choreographer, and dance teacher specialising in contemporary, jazz and street styles. Having worked in the industry with companies such as Avant Garde Dance, ZooNation and at Breakin’ Convention, she brings a wealth of expertise and experience to the role, alongside a passion for working with young people and nurturing the next generation of dancers.
“The company will be a really great opportunity for young people to really get to know the industry, their own bodies and whether it is something they want to explore further.” Jasmin Saulo
Jasmin will be joining Marvin Drew who has been working as the Assistant Artist for the company for the last two years. The company, all aged between 14 – 18, train and perform together from November to July and form a tight-knit company; Jasmin and Marvin will give the company a foundation in a wide variety of dance styles including Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Commercial, Street and Breakin’.
Auditions to join the next year of ELYDC will be held on Saturday 14 October in Stratford at UEL, University Square, E15 1NF. Auditionees will experience a variety of creative tasks and technical exercises to help us create the best youth company yet! Jasmin, Marvin and members of the ELD team will be looking for 14-18 year olds that demonstrate a passion, commitment and enthusiasm to dance, learn and improve and that’s it! Those chosen will receive a year’s worth of free training and performance opportunities, alongside close mentoring and support.
“Dancing with East London Youth Dance Company has made a massive impact in my life, it has allowed me to be more confident and stronger within performing and expressing myself to others.” ELYDC member (2016/17)
ELD also runs an open, FREE technique training class every Saturday prior to company rehearsals. This gives others the opportunity to train with the company under the guidance and instruction of Jasmin and Marvin. The FREE technique training class is open to 13-17 year olds and will resume again on Saturday 11th November. Find out more here.
